Though he was not my first show cat, Sam was my very first Regional Winner. Sam was my sweet, heavy big boned boy, and my best friend. I love Sam. He and I traveled all over Region 2 and 5 for four years learning Good Sportsmanship, and meeting new people. He had a great show career. He loved doing it, until he let me know he was done. He sired several litters. His off-spring for generations have carried his massive boning, and nice old type (not extreme) of the Maine Coon Cat breed. Red Baron (below) is his grandson. At 26 pounds full grown, Sam was truly a gentle giant. He died from an aggressive cancer that constricted his airway. I will forever miss his swaying walk, his thundering footfalls, and his tendency to stick his head under my arm like a baby, and give me a rumble purr when he was scared.
